Grand Design 02:35
In the theatre of each passing moment Disembodied voices direct the act that we act Through the noise of each identical day We still hear the music that makes us dance But somewhere deep inside, Or so the story goes, There is a sacred place And within those limits, the true self is contained We've built museums and galleries For all our depictions of life We invite people, the people come And that's the magic of our minds Every trick of the eye is by design Sorrow and ageing and weakness and need No such limits in the realm of dreams But the more that we keep to ourselves The less we recognize what the mirror sees We are fluent in every genre and movement May our canvas be never clean Seems what we draw and draw upon Is the most that we can be

It's a place from my dreams I've been here before What is left? Images we paint and sketch The most beautiful of the chosen few We held each other the whole night through We beamed with pride as our garden grew But when the fever broke, I knew Unobstructed vision A sense of place of time For such a small price, We bought ourselves peace of mind [epictetus] Love to be sure is nothing much to lose But the young swear it is And it,s their life to choose God knows we were young But these things change I tried to join the dance But you walked away

My voluntary exile Just like the three denials: Came before the break of day Where I was from That's how unconditional love was repaid The familiar and the serene Couldn't compete with The billion other me's On glowing screens In wish-fulfilling scenes So soon the moment came I knew I'd leave Where I was from I learned about the sentimental type I learned what becomes of those Who can't accept that their innocence has died Where I was from The accents are strange Where I was from They're set in their ways Where I was from Roam the ghosts of my life Where I was from Is where I will die Who will lead me back To the ceremony of innocence To what it was, and what it meant Who will lead me?

Parade 01:56
Every day: The picturesque parade Looking back at me At the gate, On the outside looking in, Where do I fit in? God knows we were young But these things change I tried to join the dance But you walked away

Colony 04:17
Step right in, into my quarantine Where thoughts I cannot trace Have formed a colony Repaint, remodel, recast, and revise Rework every meaning in my mind Someone said, If only what we hope Could become what we know Just as surely as we grow old Every promise is a prophecy But nothing's guaranteed And my silence Has not protected me Step right in, into my quarantine Where thoughts I cannot trace Have formed a colony Repaint, remodel, recast, and revise Rework every meaning in my mind Someone said, If only what we borrow Could become what we own Just because we say so The contagion is airborne We know what's inside And it burns The future,s a dreamscape We know what we've lost And it burns Every promise is a prophecy but nothing's guaranteed And my silence has not protected me No sanctuary

All I ever really wanted Was a perfect place to hide An analogous existence Unseen by the camera's eye No confrontation, no contamination, No admittance without invite: An android's dream of self-defence Made organic through artificial intelligence Now every single second, I do a thousand things The accumulation of encrypted signals augments my reality The future may be overcrowded But I'm counting down the days I've got wisdom beyond my years And the esteem of my peers And I've got the stats to prove it There's safety in numbers, the future's in crowds Is there a better way, don't we know by now? All I ever wanted was to know what counts And look what we've found

Now we know It was just a flash of light But at the time it felt like The dawn of something new About a decade left to live About a decade left to lose A nation of wealth Obsessed with itself Overplaying the winning hand It'd been dealt Yeah, it was a simpler time But good men were hard to find And only a few โ€“ the few, the proud โ€“ Only a few of his kind broke free To understand a man Understand what the world was like When he was young Remember those days under the sun The music, the message, all the wholesome fun Family and friends on Memorial Day The thrumming banality of decay Yeah, it was a happier time But good men were hard to find And only a few of the best and brightest Knew wrong from right A suburban sort of irony And a heavy heart always on the sleeve That was the voice of the doom generation At the end of history Yeah! The words still burn in our heads It hurt to see him hurt himself

World House 03:15
To feel incapable of nothing less We were paved to pave the way Our mouths knock the line, but heels hold it down This mask so tight it's skin deep An Anaheim 9-5 Much like Acadian assembly lines Violence and silence, the rhymes of life Put the same thing in the same sky No matter their origin, exploding undeserved Every floor bombed is a floor in the house of the world But the collective brain remembers things Perhaps as they should have been And not the lies and the cruelty That softens as it slips into memory No matter their origin, exploding undeserved Every floor bombed is a floor in the house of the world Miss the bus, laugh a summer laugh Walk to work, take the flower path Which didn't happen, but did because it could have Sitting pretty at the top of the world Every floor is a floor in the house of the world In every room is a feeling in every room there's a meaning An Anaheim 9-5 Exactly like Acadian assembly lines Let's be honest, let's be understood Just 'cause we're better doesn't mean we're good Every floor is a floor in the house of the world
